Maybach GLS update brings calf massage and rear-seat video calls

Published on

MERCEDES-MAYBACH has detailed an updated GLS luxury SUV, with changes focused on rear-seat comfort, entertainment and cabin refinement.

The two rear Executive Seats gain a massage function that extends to passengers’ calves for the first time in the GLS. Additional sound insulation and revised suspension technology are also intended to make journeys quieter and more comfortable.

Rear passengers have two 11.6-inch full-HD entertainment screens, paired with newly designed, individually configurable remote controls. These provide access to climate settings, privacy blinds and rear entertainment, while integrated cameras allow passengers to make video calls during journeys.

The Burmester 3D surround sound system, featuring Dolby Atmos, gains two additional speakers in the rear. This brings the total to 15, supported by a more powerful 710-watt amplifier.

Between the rear seats, a glass-fronted refrigerated compartment has room for two 0.75-litre champagne bottles. New trim choices include brown open-pore walnut with V-shaped grooves and a high-gloss silver and black diamond-pattern material.

A new beech brown and macchiato beige Nappa leather combination joins the upholstery range. Buyers can also choose additional personalisation through the MANUFAKTUR programme, including leather interior packages that extend to the roof lining.

Access is assisted by electrically extending running boards, which deploy in under a second when a door opens. Non-slip rubber inserts provide grip, while an LED strip illuminates the step at night and a Maybach pattern is projected onto the ground.

Mercedes says additional insulation around the transmission tunnel, engine bulkhead and bodyshell reduces engine, road and wind noise. A new multi-stage air filtration system renews cabin air approximately every 90 seconds and continues filtering in recirculation mode.

Standard AIRMATIC air suspension uses road information shared by other Mercedes-Benz vehicles through the cloud to prepare its damping for surfaces ahead, with particular emphasis on rear passenger comfort.

Optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL adjusts suspension forces at each wheel to reduce body movement. Its CURVE mode allows the vehicle to lean into bends by up to three degrees, reducing the sideways forces experienced by occupants.
