Top in-car gadgets for chauffeurs and clients

Published on

There are literally thousands of vehicle-based gadgets and apps out there, ranging from the sublime to the frankly ridiculous, all aimed at enhancing the comfort and safety of drivers and their passengers.

Here, we’ve picked out a selection of eight handy items and gizmos that cover a wide spectrum of prices – from just a couple of pounds to several hundred – that you may not previously have considered, but which can all make a welcome little enhancement to both long and short journeys alike.

Smart/connected car adapter

By connecting a smartphone wirelessly (via a companion app) to a small piece of adapter hardware – such as the Carista Bluetooth OBD2 – which plugs in to the car’s diagnostic port, drivers can now control and customise various in-car systems at the tap of a screen, as well as receive instant and extremely comprehensive diagnostic reports on all aspects of their vehicle’s performance and health.

The Carista works with both iPhone and Android platforms to offer enhanced driver-controlled functions such as resetting oil service indicators, servicing electronic parking brakes, changing the configurations of remote door-locking mechanisms and checking your launch control count. In short, it turns a ‘dumb’ car into a very smart one indeed.

Portable jumpstart kit
Carrying a portable power bank with jumper leads can make all the difference should you happen to run into battery difficulties en route, particularly when driving on motorways or at unusual times of day when it’s much less likely that anyone else will be around to help out.

Something like the Suaoki U10 is a compact, handy but very high capacity option that will not only give your 12V battery multiple reviving boosts on a single charge, but also benefits from intelligent clamps, LCD indicator screens, bright illumination LEDs and a built-in compass.

In-car air purifier/humidifier
High-end, multi-function car air purifiers are a fantastic way to improve the general ambiance of a vehicle, improving air quality and overall comfort dramatically at the same time as helping to sterilise and disinfect the immediate environment for the benefit of both driver and passengers.

More advanced models, such as the JFA Smart Car Ionizer, also offer numerous additional features such as odour elimination and allergy neutralising filters. Along similar lines, car humidifiers and aromatherapy misters are also becoming increasingly popular add-ons, especially for professional drivers who spend long days behind the wheel.
