Ten tips for protecting yourself and chauffeur clients

Fact – we Iive and work in a dangerous world, and as chauffeurs, we really do need to give serious consideration to everything from terrorism to common criminality.

Andy Dubberley lists 10 basic tips to help keep you and your clients safe…

Knowledge is power: It’s time to get past this ‘I don’t need training’ mindset and realise you do. The world has changed and as a professional chauffeur you should be changing with it, you owe your paying clients no less. No one’s saying it has to be a big money all singing and dancing course but do whatever you can commit time and money to because a small amount of security awareness training is hugely beneficial. Same goes for first aid skills, you literally could save someone’s life.

Don’t ever assume “It’ll never happen to me”: Let’s not beat around the bush here, we’re all involved in a game of chance and being in the wrong place at the wrong time has dramatically changed a lot of innocent people’s lives. Of course, we never expect to be a victim or even a witness, but burying your head in the sand isn’t an option considering what’s going on in our world right now.

It’s not all about terrorism: Because of recent events in other major European cities, we all understandably think of terrorism as being the most obvious threat to ourselves and our principals. Whilst this is of course a strong possibility in the current climate, it’s just as likely that incidents could be anything from petty crime through to someone running amok armed with a machete, as very recent events have proven. Consider all worse case scenarios, everything is possible and the threat is very real.
