It can be difficult to discover a cars true potential on the roads of the UK, so at TheChauffeur.com we decided to hit the roads of Europe and see what the Jaguar XJL was capable of over a long distance and travelled to Meribel in the French Alps.
Since the new era of the Jaguar XJ hit the roads in 2009, we have published an array of reviews on how it suits the chauffeur industry, with the superb 3.0 V6 diesel engine receiving top points every time. But, we wanted to give it a test with a difference and see how it performs in the mountains of the Alps as well as the stunning motorways leading us there.
With three passengers and luggage, it’s obvious pretty quickly the MPG will be lower than we would normally achieve, but It slowly crept up as the smooth open roads of France offered the perfect opportunity to adapt our driving to get the best MPG. A figure of 43.0 was eventually achieved over the 1,500 miles.
Once across the channel, we settled in to the upgraded comfort seats and got the tunes playing via the £1,170 rear entertainment pack. Then, with a further nine hours to kill, we set upon planning our next adventure with the XJ.
Meribel is a stunning ski resort offering an array of challenging slopes – so we decided to find out what would be faster from the highest point in the resort, to the lowest – a skier or the Jag.
