Editor gets first Level 4 driver protection qualifications

Published on

Editor of TheChauffeur.com Paul Gibson has become one of the first people in the UK to achieve a brand new qualification aimed at increasing protection skills for the UK’s chauffeur industry.

In these time of heightened security, it’s important all chauffeurs should be aware of the basic security elements, especially when chauffeuring clients in the capital. So, the Ofqual Level 4 Security Driver’s course has been designed to give not only working chauffeurs a much better understanding of protection, but also giving them a better skill set and help them find further work in the protection field.

Based on the UK’s Police Services’ National Protection Officers driving course, candidates are put through an intensive seven day, full-time training programme which is headed up by former Hendon Police Driving Instructions (and Royalty Protection Officers)The course is focused on security driving skills both on and off-road on a private airfield in Hertfordshire.

The Ofqual/IQ Level 4 certificate in security driving and vehicle management is solely provided by Trojan Consultancy, a firm headed-up by Simon Morgan an ex-Close Protection Officer to Her Majesty The Queen, and Chief Instructor, Mick Croome (Ex-Special Escort Group) from popular training firm SpeedSkills.

During the course, candidates receive four days of intensive on-road advanced driver training to RoSPA standards. A Gold level pass is required to achieve the full grade. There is also three days of vehicle control training. This involves essential training such as turning a vehicle around in short spaces (J-Turns), vehicle maintenance, checks and a variety of other scenarios to help you when the unexpected happens.

Simon Morgan from Trojan Consultancy said; “This course will ensure you are trained to a standard expected by a principal when they’re in your care.  As a chauffeur, the increased skill set will allow you to progress competently into the area of protection services. Many principals are now demanding a greater skill set from their drivers, mainly for insurances purposes, the Ofqual Level 4 qualification ensures you have these skills and allows you to offer your clients a higher standard of service and security”.

Paul Gibson from TheChauffeur.com who’s completed the course commented; “It’s certainly an eye-opening experience and an excellent insight into what can actually happen if you’re working in the protection field. The on-road driver advanced driver training is also priceless. Achieving a RoSPA Gold grade certainly isn’t a walk in the park, but when you get to grips as to what is expected of you – you wonder how you’ve survived.”
