An introduction to chauffeur insurance

Individuals and businesses that make their money from carrying passengers around in a motor vehicle require specialist motor trade insurance. For some this means taking out taxi insurance, however, if you are a chauffeur or commercial driver in charge of a vehicle that doesn’t fall into the taxi category – you may need to take out a specialist insurance more suited to your needs; chauffeur insurance.

Chauffeur insurance is generally designed to protect your vehicle – a task that is particularly important if you are driving an expensive luxury car or an executive vehicle that could be difficult and costly to replace. This type of insurance can cover many types of motor vehicle that do not fall into the van, taxi or courier insurance categories. This can include anything from a fleet of luxury stretch limousines right through to cars used at wedding cars and minibuses or hospital vehicles.

Although insurance is important for all drivers in order to protect themselves and their vehicles, those drivers who carry passengers as part of their business need to think beyond their own safety and that of their motor when taking out insurance. The minimum third party insurance for motor vehicle drivers is unlikely to be sufficient cover for anyone who drives for a living, particularly those who are responsible for the safety of others. With this in mind, Public Liability insurance is likely to be one of the major components of a chauffeur insurance policy. This covers the holder against personal injury claims made by members of the public, as well as damage occurring on public property. Although this insurance is not required by law, taking it out is a sensible precaution and could prevent disruption to your business, or even save your company in the event of a potentially financially crippling liability claim.

When your business is reliant on your vehicle running well, there are other insurance elements you may also find it beneficial to include in a tailored chauffeur insurance plan. Breakdown cover is likely to be top of this list, along with replacement vehicle cover. Ensuring these are in place will help you to guarantee you will get your passengers to their destination, come what may and prevent you losing any business should there be a mishap which forces your vehicle off the road.

In order to find a chauffeur insurance policy that is tailored to your needs you may have to take action beyond a quick search on a comparison site. Instead consider looking online for quotes for specialist policies such as Staveley Head chauffeur insurance cover and take time to speak to customer service representatives to ensure that all of your needs are met.
