Chauffeurs face Lexus LS limo recall
Lexus has announced it is to recall 11,500 LS600h and 460 models due to a reported fault in a steering system.
Although it is thought only 40 vehicles are to be recalled within the UK, models equipped with the Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS) are being targeted in the latest recall by the Japanese manufacturer.
The problem was highlighted in March this year, after approximately 10 complaints in Japan. No accidents have been reported relating to this issue and Lexus has said it has received no reported cases in the UK.
VGRS is a feature that enables easier handling during low-speed driving and provides better stability during high-speed driving than conventional steering by changing the gear ratio.
The problem occurs at low speed when manoeuvring the steering wheel to full lock position. If the driver then returns the steering wheel very fast, this could lead to a steering wheel off-centre condition even though the driving wheels would be straight.
VOSA has been notified that a recall will be initiated in the UK.
This is not the first time that the problems related to Lexus vehicle has surfaced. In April, the company had announced suspension of the sales of its Lexus GX460 model in North America.
